At the Military Academy "General Mihailo Apostolski," a simulation exercise on a cyber-hybrid attack was conducted to test the preparedness of state institutions in responding to cyber threats. The event marked a crucial step in strengthening national cybersecurity and digital resilience.
As part of the activities, the British Ambassador to North Macedonia, Matthew Lawson, officially handed over the minimum cybersecurity standards for government institutions to the Prime Minister of the Republic of North Macedonia, Hristijan Mickoski. These standards are the result of months of dedicated work and collaboration among professors and assistants from the Military Academy, who actively participated as experts in the project and were part of the working group responsible for their development.
The event was attended by the Prime Minister, the Minister of Defense, Vlado Misajlovski, and the Minister of Digital Transformation, Stefan Andonovski, along with other high-ranking representatives from the Government and security institutions.
Prime Minister Hristijan Mickoski emphasized that this simulation exercise represents a significant step in improving national resilience against cyberattacks:
"This was a strategic exercise in which we simulated a cyberattack on state institutions. Through this, we tested the Government's ability to make swift and effective decisions in the face of a digital threat. We can draw many lessons from this to ensure we know how to respond if, God forbid, a real attack occurs. The Government will continue investing in strengthening national digital infrastructure and establishing a central data center for more coordinated and better-organized protection."
The exercise was supported by the Government of the United Kingdom through the British Embassy in Skopje as part of a broader regional initiative to enhance cybersecurity in the Western Balkans.
The simulation exercise, a key component of the event, aimed to strengthen the capacity of government institutions in identifying, responding to, and managing cyber incidents. By simulating real-world scenarios, participants were guided through the decision-making process during critical digital threats, enabling them to develop effective response and coordination strategies.
This activity reaffirms the Military Academy's leadership in the field of cybersecurity, its commitment to developing modern methodologies for addressing digital challenges, and the importance of international support in building a more resilient cyber environment for North Macedonia.
